Supervisory Activity

Supervisory activity is focused on support rendered to public authorities or other organisational- or self-governing state units in performing their tasks in the fields related to the Institute´s activities. Preferably, the supervisory activity is provided to State Office for Nuclear Safety, the Institute´s founder.

Supervisory activity contains also organisation of education and training courses for the state administration units.

Support provided to SONS

Institute provides support to supervision carried out by inspectors of State Office for Nuclear Safety in radiation protection in workplaces with the occurrence of natural radioactive compounds, in particular, at former or actually existing mines and/or milling plants of radioactive raw materials, as well as at the others underground workplaces or mining works.

The essential part of supervisory activity consists of the performance of on-site measurements of natural radioactivity, both at workplaces mentioned above, as well as monitoring of radioactivity impact on environment.
The Institute´s specialists also participate in radioactivity air-monitoring site and in activities of mobile groups incorporated in Radiation Monitoring System of the Czech Republic.

Ragarding observance of the obligations when handling hazardous chemical compounds (listed in Decree No. 459/2020 Coll.) and highly dangerous and dangerous biological agents and toxins (according to Decree No. 474/2002 Coll.), the Institute provides technical and analytical support for inspectors of SONS; such a support is carried out by Institute´s mobile analytical groups consisting on specialists of Chemical or Biological Protection Departments.

Radon Programme of the Czech Republic

Institute cooperates with the National Radiation Protection Institute in the execution of Radon Programme of the Czech Republic. RAMARn measuring systems (using the principle of trace dosimetry) are prepared and evaluated after exposition to determine volume activity of radon.
