Laboratory of Chemical Monitoring and Protection
Laboratory of Chemical Monitoring and Protection (LCMP) is a detached division located in Brno (Moravia part of CR). Its activity is focused especially on research and development of personal and collective protective equipment used against impact of hazardous chemical compounds on human.
LCMP is engaged in the national projects of safety research; it also cooperates with many foreign research institutions in the framework of international cooperation supported by the EU. The LCMP personnel are involved in national and international panels coping with strategies of CBRN protection.
Within the research projects of safety research, the LCMP focuses mainly on transfer of new knowledge to practice, in particular new types of sorbents and enhanced protective materials, including nanomaterials, decontamination equipment and decontaminants. Part of the applied research in LCMP is also development of detection equipment of dangerous chemical compounds based on specific colour reactions.
LCMP cooperates with other top research institutions dealing with similar issues, e.g. Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí n. Labem, University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Science, Technical University of Liberec, Mining University – Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Technical University in Prague. In the private sphere, the cooperating companies are e.g. Dekonta s.a. and Oritest Ltd.
An integral part of professional activities of LCMP is also its engagement in the preparation and implementation of education and training programmes and courses. LCMP was at the birth of the CBRN conferences HAZMAT Protect.
Within the Central Laboratory of the Institute accredited by the Czech Institute for Accreditation, LCMP has introduced the methodologies for the testing of material resistance to permeation of hazardous chemical agents, testing of sorption capacity of sorbents for the capture of chemical agents or testing of gastightness of respiratory protection equipment.
