National Institute for NBC Protection (the Institute) is a public research institution managed by Ministry of the Interior of the Czech republic (the body authorized to perform legal acts on behalf of the founder is Ministry of the interior – the General Directorate of the Fire Rescue Servise of the Czech Republic) on the basis of Act No. 341/2005 Coll., in order to perform research and development in the field of chemical, biological and radioactive (CBRN) compounds and to provide technical and analytical support to inspection activities of SONS in radiological protection and in supervision of compliance with nuclear weapons non-proliferation and chemical and biological weapons prohibition.
Upon the request, the Institute supports the activities of public authorities and institutions, as well as other organisational- and self-governing units within the Czech Republic. Institute also provides expert support to basic units of Integrated Rescue System to provide an efficient reaction to threats to population or the environment, potentially coming from a release of highly dangerous and/or CBRN compounds.
For external entities, state and/or private sectors originating, both domestic and foreign, the Institute provides (i) analyses and expert opinions; (ii) testing, evaluation and verification (e.g. detection systems, personal and/or collective protective equipment, decontamination means); (iii) education and training courses focused on CBRN issues.
