Engagement in Integrated Rescue System

Based on the Agreement on Planned Assistance upon Request, concluded between the Institute and Ministry of Interior – Directorate General of Fire Service of the Czech Republic, the Institute is an inherent part of Integrated Rescue System (IRS) of the Czech Republic. The engagement of the Institute in IRS activities comprises from expert consultations, identification of „unknown“ or assistance of mobile analytical groups in rescue operations.

Identification of unknown stuffs

Within the Czech Republic, Institute ensures a role of special workplace permanently prepared to perform fast identification of findings with (potentially) dangerous content, in particular for a possible presence of radioactive compounds, highly hazardous chemicals or highly dangerous biological agents and toxins.

These unique capabilities of Institute laboratories are utilised by IRS units most often for identification of unknown compounds and/or suspicious objects found in CR, mainly in highly exposed places, during major social events or in mail consignments addressed to VIPs, politicians or institutions.

Such activities can be carried out by means of stationary laboratories or on-site using capabilities of mobile analytical laboratories.

At the workplace Kamenná, the Institute´s headquarter located near to Příbram, there is a heliport also available useful for fast transport, e.g. in case of prominent findings or samples, transport of experts or instrumentation to the place of emergency, etc.
